Can Coffee Help You to Lose Weight

When it comes to the modern lifestyle, one of the most common problems that we can face stems from weight. Obesity, weight gain and generally poor quality of life thanks to weight-related issues is the new norm.  For many people, it’s a majorly off-putting part of living in the modern world. If you are interested in losing weight, you have likely tried all the usual stuff. Cutting out the excess, eating healthier meals, upping your water intake & exercising more. However, one of the most common weight loss companions is coffee.

You may wonder why coffee is such a powerful companion when it comes to losing weight. While we would never recommend that you simply just drink coffee all day, we do have some recommendations with regard to using coffee for weight loss. To help you find out why it’s such a powerful solution, we’re going to invoke the wisdom of an expert.

According to one nutritionist, Sarah Flowers, there’s a lot of unique power about the use of coffee for weight loss. We’re going to break down the key points of it here, but we want you to better understand just what you are taking – and why drinking more coffee might make a lot of sense.

That being said, we also recommend that you check out the full interview with Sarah over at The Express. It’s the perfect example of why coffee is so popular, and why investing in that coffee machine of your dreams might make a lot of sense.

Why Coffee & Weight Loss Work So Well

One of the main reasons that coffee is so good for us in terms of losing weight is due to the metabolic boost. Like most forms of caffeinated drink, you can enjoy a nice little kick to the metabolism with a coffee. Why does that matter, you ask? It’s quite simple.

Weight loss needs a fast metabolism. Lifestyle, genetics and your body itself will play a key role in determining your metabolic speed. Someone with a fast metabolism can often find it hard to put weight on, while someone with a slow metabolism can find it hard to keep the weight off.

A cup of coffee each day will help to boost our metabolism naturally. This is due to a process known as thermogenesis, which makes it easier for our bodies to start burning off the fat we have and using it as a source of energy. This is very important, and plays a critical role in making sure that our bodies are able to get rid of fat in a timely manner.

So, coffee naturally helps to boost our metabolism. This is part of the reason why there is such a movement towards using coffee as a weight loss aid. Add in the fact it has chlorogenic acid a powerful acid that slows down carbohydrate absorption, as well as epinephrine, which breaks down fat excellently, and it’s easy to see why this is so powerful.

A Word of Warning

However, before you start making space for a coffee every hour in a bid to get your metabolism running like a Formula-1 car, you need to know it is not so simple. Like anything else, the boosts provided and the returns that you get become significantly minimized the moment that you drink an excess of coffee.

One or two cups per day is going to give you a massive kick of all the benefits involved with coffee and weight loss. Drinking four or more cups per day will lead to diminished returns, and also leave you in the thrall of trying to keep your energy levels high with excessive coffee amounts.

So, before you start firing up that coffee machine for the fifth time today, think again. While you might love a cup of coffee, you do need to be more intelligent with when you have a cup of coffee. Now, feel free to disregard this, but you will eventually get to the point where a coffee excess will lead to more or less total tolerance.

This means that your body eventually builds up a resistance to the benefits that coffee has on the body. You should really go the extra mile to try and sort this out, and avoid drinking too much coffee as time goes on. If you want to get the maximum benefits, then you do need to reduce intake to a much more predictable level before progressing.

Coffee and the Gym

If you are like many people, you want to get into shape by doing some exercise. While diet plays more of a role than exercise ever could, you do need exercise to turn fat into muscle. You also need exercise to help maintain physical strength and consistency, so you should be ready to put in the effort to do this.

This is why we recommend that coffee and trips to the gym go hand-in-hand so well. Caffeine helps to up our gym performance, and can be vital for making sure you hit your targets in the gym. It’s why caffeine is so useful for hitting the gym with; on those high intensity workouts, you need that extra dosage of get-up and go.

This is why coffee and the gym are such fantastic bedfellows. Not only that, but coffee works as a natural stimulant that makes you much more likely to burn off energy and to reduce fat stores. You work through your fat faster, actually, which helps to make any time that you do spend at the gym a much more satisfying and gratifying experience in the end-up.

If you want to start getting the most out of your body, a coffee before the gym makes a hell of a lot sense. It can give you that get-up and go that you might have been lacking earlier. Now, you should have more energy and charisma to get through a workout, making the benefits and the process a touch less tiresome.

Appetite Reduction

Another reason why coffee is such a powerful companion for weight loss stems from appetite management. When used right, coffee can be a good way to help you to stop eating as much food and make it easier for you to change up your dietary habits. One of the main reasons why coffee works so well is that it helps to reduce the appetite when taken in the right dosage.

This can help you to reduce your need to eat so much, though we never recommend choosing a coffee over an actual meal. You still need to eat. Coffee, though, does make it easier to cut down on consumption-led issues such as snacking too much. With this, you can make it much easier to take better care of your body and make sure that each workout has the best chance of producing the benefits that you had intended.

Not only does it help to reduce appetite issues, but it plays a major role in making sure you can concentrate better. Being hungry makes our concentration wane, so this can help to reduce your need for snacks and also make it easier to stay in-tune and on-point.

Simply add in some MCT oil into a cup of coffee, and you can begin to really feel the health benefits kick in for you in a big way. Naturally, many people choose to engage with this kind of option when using coffee as a workout and weight loss companion. That added touch of concentration can really go a long way to making your entire weight loss regimen successful.

Drinking the Right Coffee

According to the International Epidemiological Association, coffee has a huge benefit to our ability to reduce obesity, metabolic issues and even Type-2 diabetes. The study, found in the International Journal of Epidemiology, more than 90,000 people were looked at. In that study, they found that those who drank more coffee were:

  • Less likely to be obese.
  • Less likely to have metabolic issues.
  • Reducing the chances of suffering from Type-2 Diabetes.

Of course, it’s important to note that is a classic coffee. The one thing we want to make clear is that the kind of coffee that you drink matters a great deal when in relation to your chances at maximizing weight loss.

One mistake that many people make, though, is buying coffee that is not actually very good for them. If you were to keep buying expensive, sugar-laden cappuccinos and the like then you would naturally not get very far.

You should always make sure that if you want the benefits of coffee that you drink plain old black coffee. Yes, it’s not as nice and yes it can be harder to drink a lot of – but if you want the primary benefits of coffee for weight loss, cappuccinos and lattes is hardly going to help you solve the problem.

Make sure that you drink your coffee with the right kind of mixture of ingredients, and you can make sure that those hidden calories and extras never becomes the problem it could be.
